Synthesis, properties, and applications of ultrahard nano-polycrystalline diamond (HIME-DIA)

Prof. Irifunerecieved Japan Mineralogical Society Award in 1998, Ishikawa Carbon Prize in 2004, Alexander von Humboldt Research Award in 2007, and The Japan Society of High Pressure Science and Technology Award in 2009. He was selected to be American Geophysical Union (AGU) fellow in 2008. His research is focused on three major directions: (1) Phase transformations and dynamics in mantle materials at very high pressure, (2) Physical properties of high-pressure minerals, (3) Synthesis of nano-polycrystalline diamond (NPD) and related ultrahard materials at high pressure.
Prof. Irifune has published more than 10 academic books and more than 140 research papers, including 9 in Nature and 2 in Science.
