Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology:

The institute, founded in 1980, has become an important research, development and education base in this field in China. The number and variety of low energy accelerators and experimental terminals are No. 1 among institutes in the universities. It’s the key laboratory for radiation physics and technology of Education Ministry, branch of virtual research center of nuclear science and technology of Education Ministry. It has special professor position of Changjiang scholarship. The major researches in fundamental and applied areas are radiation physics and medical physics, atomic, molecular collision and cluster physics, isotope and radiation biological technology, material surface modification by particle beams, radiation processing of polymer, nuclear monitor and control technology, nuclear data measurement and evaluation,. In the meantime, the institute is responsible for the training of Ph. D. and master students in these fields; has achieved quite a lot of influencing research results, established wide cooperative relations domestically and internationally. For example, the institute is doing research and development in three-dimension treatment planning system in radiation therapy, medical and industrial radioactive isotope production, Chinese herbal pharmacology research using isotope technology, X-ray analysis technology, autocontrol system based on computer technology, preparation of supper hard materials, polymer material radiation processing.

Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics

In 1984, under the national science plan, professor Gou Qingquan established the Institute of High Temperature, High Pressure and Atomic and Molecular Physics (later divided into “Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics” and “Institute of High Temperature and High Pressure”)  at Chengdu University of Science and Technology (now a part of Sichuan University). Upon this foundation, in 1985, the institute was ready to accept Ph. D. student and at the same year acquired the Ph. D. program. In 1988, it was rated to be the only national key discipline in atomic and molecular physics. More than sixty Ph. D. students, one hundred sixty master students have graduated. In this discipline, the number of graduates is the most in the nation and best in quality.

The standard is among the best in the nation and has certain international influence. In 1992, the Ph. D. and master program was rated No.1 in the nation. The Research is to train high-level talents, to develop creative research in the following 5 areas: 1. Atomic and molecular physics under high temperature and high pressure; 2. Atomic and molecular physics theory and its application; 3. Nano-meter physics, atomic, molecular design and high temperature synthetics of new materials; 4. Cluster physics and atomic collision in solids; 5. Atomic and molecular fundamental research in bio-condenced matter.

   The characteristic of research is putting emphasis on both fundamentals and applications, combine national defence and production and have achieved fruitful results.

Key Laboratory of Radiation Physics and Technology, Ministry of Education 

The key laboratory was established in 1993, and opened for natioanl and international scholar. It has become an important research, development and education base in this field in China. colleghas become an important research, development and education base in this field in China.

The laboratory 's research works include radiation physics and medical physics; interaction between the particles and matters and application in material modification; nuclear monitor and control technology; isotope application and radiation biotechnology Some of its research achievements have been recognized internationally.

The laboratory has also built a large-sized high-resolution and multi-purpose atomic collision system, helping China become one of the leading countries in the research of clusters and its interaction with materials, which requires highly advanced levels of accelerators, targets and detectors.

In addition, the laboratory has made achievements in the research of the quality control system in cement production, medical imaging systems, nuclear monitoring and automation technologies, and the modernization of traditional Chinese medical sciences.

The laboratory has many large-sized equipment and devices, including the cyclotron, electrostatic accelerator, ion-electron accelerator and ion implanter, offering a solid material basis for its research and development.

It has now set up co-operative relations with famous domestic and foreign research institutes, and especially welcomes scholars at both home and abroad.
