报告摘要:
In this talk, I will use my recent research results to highlight the advent of high-pressure technology in solving outstanding scientific questions in mineral physics and novel material science especially in two-dimensional materials. I will discuss the development of high-pressure diamond anvil cell coupled with laser and synchrotron X-ray spectroscopies to directly probe a wide range of physical properties including vibrational, elastic, electronic, and thermal transport properties of material at extreme environments. The advent of these technologies has direct applications in solving Earth science scientific questions because planetary interiors are inherently subject to extreme pressure-temperature conditions. Specifically, I will present new time-resolved laser spectroscopies in solving full elasticity and in understanding thermal conductivity of materials at high pressure. These will be used to show you our new view of the Earth’s core (where magnetic fields are generated) and physical phenomena of the deep mantle (where electronic transitions occur). I will also use newly discovered two-dimensional materials as examples to highlight the effective means of compressive strain in tuning electronic bandgap, mobility, and thermal transport properties.

林俊孚(Jung-Fu Lin),教授,于2002年获得美国芝加哥大学的博士学位,2002-2008年先后在美国华盛顿卡内基研究院地球物理实验室(Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington)、Lawrence Livermore国家实验室等国际著名研究机构和实验室从事科学研究工作,现就职于德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校(Jackson School of Geosciences, The University of Texas at Austin)。迄今已发表SCI文章160余篇,其中在Nature、Science、Nature Materials、Nature Geoscience、Physical Review Letters、Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA、Nature Communication、Journal of the American Chemical Society、Nano letters、Earth and Planetary Science Letters等国际著名期刊上发表文章近三十余篇。他主要利用先进的同步辐射光源和金刚石对顶砧(DAC)实验技术研究地球内部及行星科学,高压矿物物理,以及极端条件下凝聚介质物理性质等性质。在地球科学,诸如地幔和地核内部的结构以及动力学研究领域提出了新的构想,并取得了突出的研究成果,在国际上产生了重要的影响。近年来,在高压条件下针对超硬、超导、储能及二维材料等新材料体系也开展了相关物性研究,并取得了众多创新性研究成果。同时,他也利用Z脉冲功率设施(Z-machine)以及激光加载等技术研究相关凝聚介质在动压加载下的物理性质。
