He worked at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden from 1999 till 2008,
holding various positions: post-doc in 1999; assistant professor during
2000-2003; associate professor during 2003-2008. He is also presently an adjunct
professor at Chalmers. Since 2008, Dr. Liu has been working at CCFE, as a Senior
Fusion Theorist.
Dr. Liu has so far authored/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal

Dr. Liu is currently working on theory and modelling of macroscopic
instabilities in fusion plasmas. In particular, he has been working on magnetic
feedback and kinetic stabilisation of the so-called resistive wall modes, that
can pose severe limitation on the advanced fusion plasma scenarios, such as
those foreseen for ITER.
